ep 6.9 - Tony Jones & The New Christians

February 4, 2008

Tony Jones
This week Tony Jones stops back by the podcast to admit that we have the best emergent podcast on the net. He also said that we throw softballs to our interviewee’s. So for this show - we don’t pull any punches.

It should be said that this interview is just an audio rip of an actual Video Chat Interview. Some of you may have been online to see it over at Shape Vine. Shape Vine is an interesting site you may want to check out. In a few weeks our video with Tony will be up.

We introduced a couple new pieces. We let Tony give us a review of our podcast. We did a “Word Blitz” where we asked about the definition of some words that he used in his new book. [pogroms, modicum, un-pin-downable, jejune, bloviations, nefarious, short shrift]

Tony talked about his new book, The New Christians. Josh has been raving about the book and his full review is here. In the end Nick gave it 8/10 Mclarens and Josh gave it 10/10. Nick played the hard ass and gave it a less than warm response in order to play into Tony’s criticism.

You can pre-order the book here at Amazon.

Tony provided the first chapter for our listeners. You can get that here.

We are aware that tony had a little bit of a hot mic. Sorry - it will be distracting, but it shouldn’t take away from the content. We were new to the mics through Shape Vines system.

ep 5.1 - Dr. Scot McKnight

September 22, 2007

scotmcknightwebjpg.jpgThis week Josh and Nick talk to Dr. Scot McKnight.

He is a blogger, an author, and a teacher.

Dr. McKnight is one of the top emergent bloggers, after recently having gaining some ground over the Tall Skinny, and a well versed professor of Historical Jesus. Rumor has it he is friends with Nick’s man crush - Bart D. Ehrman (maybe he will put in a good word for the podcast, which Bart has declined twice).

During the podcast Nick and Josh talk Curb Your Enthusiasm, Google Fight, Jesus Seminar, and much more. “Frolic” by Luciano Michelini is the song they try to figure out at the beginning of the podcast.

This weeks music was provided by The Spots

ep 4.9 - Jim Henderson

September 8, 2007

jim_henderson_head_color.jpg

This week Josh and Nick talk with Jim Henderson from Off The Map. And he stops by to tell us about what he does and his new conference Off The Map Live 2007.

Nick and Josh both used to log into Off The Map constantly and used it as a reference for evangelism. They both remember watching the Lost Interviews at YS Conferences.

Jim is a pretty cool guy. It is great to have met him. He is the only person that has been on this podcast that actually has two souls. Remember when Hemant Mehta sold his soul on ebay? Jim won the auction. He continually thinks and creates new ways to enter into relationships and conversations. His book Jim and Casper go to Church talks about Jim hiring an atheist to go with churches with him and give him feeback on each one.
