ep 7.9 - Purple State of Mind

April 6, 2008

purplestateofmind.pngThis week Josh and Anna (Josh’s wife) meet up with the creators of the film Purple State of Mind in downtown Atlanta for an interview about the film. It is essentially a documentary of the conversation between two friends that spans 25 years, one an atheist and one a Christian.Craig Detweiler is a filmmaker, author, and co-directs the Reel Spirituality Institute at Fuller Theological Seminary. He is the author of Matrix of Meanings: Finding God in Pop Culture.John Marks is a novelist, journalist, and former producer of 60 Minutes. His books include Wall, Wartorn, Fangland, and his most recent work, Reasons to Believe. From their website:”Purple State of Mind, our movie, is an 80-minute effort to bridge the cultural gap, to push past politics, and wade into the middle ground where most people live. Purple State, the web experience, extends that effort out into the homes, dorm rooms, churches, offices and playing fields where people are struggling to have their own conversations. In a world of increasing tension, we hope Purple State of Mind offers an alternative–a warm, humorous, genuine conversation that at the same time pulls no punches.”

[…] These very well could be the creepiest pictures of Nick I’ve ever seen. That one with the goofy smile looks borderline like he’s about to start whistling and calling all forms of wildlife to his side for an epic war. Either that or a serial killer. We’ve also got a podcast up with the guys from Purple State of Mind. […]

[…] Nick & Josh created one of the smartest and funniest podcasts in the Emergent (Emergenty? Emergentesque!) world. Their previous guests include Brian McLaren, Tony Jones, Phyllis Tickle, Doug Pagitt, A.J. Jacobs, and Shane Claiborne. So we’re honored to join that band of raconteurs (in fact, the podcast closes with the song, “Broken Boy Soldier” from The Raconteurs!). You can listen to our conversation here. […]
