January 27, 2008

The last Sunday of the month our podcast has been dubbed the Corporate Responsibility podcast. Ariah Fine does a great job generating content that drives good conversations. This week he talks about Product (Red). Take a few minutes and listen to it, make it past our long intro and get the meat of it.

Here are things Josh and Nick mentioned in the intro:

Did Postmodernism come from Alabama?

ep 6.7 - Brian McLaren & Everything Must Change

January 19, 2008

This week our hosts got to talk with Brian Mclaren about his new book Everything Must Change as well as a set of conferences coming up called Deep Shift.

Brian talks about the ‘biggest problems in the world’ and asks “What did Jesus have to say about them?”. The conversation talks about the ‘political’ messages of Jesus.

Josh dropped out about half way through the interview due to some technical difficulties which we are sure you will pick up. Please don’t rush to the conclusion that Nick is an ass that monopolizes interviews.

Nick and Josh mention again the conferences they will be attending. The links are here on the right of the main page.

Nick and Josh: LIVE

January 16, 2008

Nick and Josh have announced their live appearances at two upcomming events. Nick will be at Deep Shift in Charlotte February 1st and 2nd, and Josh will be at A Sustainable Faith in Florida February 2nd and 3rd.

If you are near either even they invite you to come and hang out. Nick will be speaking about podcasting and technology over at Deep Shift and Josh will be doing some awesome stunts on his Vespa while he sustains his faith. They are both anti-social, so if they are wierd when you talk to them it’s not because they hate you. It is because they spend most of their time with their faces in books and blogging. The sunlight will be good for them though. Both of these events are sponsored by local cohorts and it is highly advisable that you support cohort events.

ep 6.6 - Frank Viola & Pagan Christianity

January 11, 2008

Frank Viola has recently co-authored a book with the mythic George Barna called Pagan Christianity. It is a bit of a juggernaut flying through the history of the church with a small spin, Christianity lifted some source material from cults. It’s no new story. If you have studied much of the Old Testament or the history of the Hebrews you know it too well. Religion is buffet table. It gives and takes and sometimes the foods get mixed. To my knowledge this is the first book that gives a brief run through the New Testament church with a primer not written for the intelligencia.

Frank responds to some questions and objections here and he offers a free bonus chapter over here. His official website is PTMIN.org.

Nick’s review of the book is here.

Buy the book here.

This episode we mention two conferences in the Southeast coming up at the beginning of February. The new one that Frank will be speaking at is called A Sustainable Faith it only costs $25 for two days with Frank, Troy Bronsink, Shane Claiborne, and more. I will also be at Deep Shift in Charlotte, but the sustainable conference in Florida should be incredible as well.

ep 6.5 - Helen Mildenhall: Mental Disorders & Faith Communities

January 6, 2008

Helen works over at Off The Map. She does some web development there. She also blogs at Conversation At The Edge. She blogs on faith and family. She has found readers from both the Atheistic background as well as the Religious background. One of the best things about Helen may be that her personality and her story has brought these two groups together.

In our interview she talks about mental disorders, the church, almost atheism, and her life. If you want to talk to Helen about her story there is a contact page on her website. Helen posted her thoughts on the interview as well as some links that tell more of her story here.

Rumor has it Red Cowboy helped out with that Off-The-Map site.

Music for this weeks podcast was a version of Arabian Nights that I covered with some hardcore rockers.
